Women’s Soccer Sweeps CCC Weekly Awards

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Suffolk women's soccer wrapped up the regular-season in winning fashion and it showed with a sweep of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly accolades. Freshman Jazmya Harris earned both offensive player and rookie of the week, while Allison Rodrigues repeated as defensive player of the week, the conference office unveiled Monday afternoon. The accolades for both come after their heroics in the 2-1 regular-season overtime finale at Roger Williams Tuesday, Oct. 26.

Harris, who hails from East Providence, Rhode Island, scored both goals in Suffolk's overtime CCC victory over the Hawks. She opened the scoring in the 25th minute, but RWU responded in the second stanza to level the playing field and force the extra session. The forward converted a feed from Hayley Long with one-minute left in the first overtime to push the blue-and-gold to a victory that helped the Rams seal up the fifth spot in the CCC post-season.

Rodrigues was instrumental in that win in Bristol, Rhode Island as well. The senior keeper from North Andover, Massachusetts, made a career-high 11 saves.

The Rams swept the three weekly awards for the first time in program history including its 13-year stint in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).  The trio of awards brings Suffolk's 2021 total to five. The pair is responsible for all of them with three to Harris' credit and two belonging to Rodrigues. The five weekly awards tie a program record for weekly awards set by the 2011 squad.

Individually, Harris is the first player in program history to have three weekly honors from a conference. She is the first rookie to be named the best rookie over a seven-day stretch twice in a single season, first since Jessica Harmon earned a pair of nods from the GNAC in 2014. Rodrigues, meanwhile, is the first netminder with a pair of goalkeeper weekly distinctions since Melissa Brouillette '15 had the best set of gloves in a week's span in the GNAC twice in 2011.

Suffolk concludes its 2021 campaign, its first in the CCC with a 2-1 setback in the quarterfinals at Gordon Saturday, Oct. 30.
