Women’s Soccer Adds Pair to Captains Contingent

BOSTON – In addition to senior Emerson Wildes, head coach Ashley Van Vechten has divided up the Suffolk women's soccer captain responsibilities spreading the wealth to junior Addisyn Lanza and sophomore Allison Rodrigues. The trio has helped the Rams to a 2-1 start in 2019, the best since 2016.

"Both Addisyn and Allison have made a tremendous impact on the field for us, and we expect the same in terms of leadership within our program," Van Vechten said. "I am confident that they will both help shape our team in a positive way by modeling our team's core values and continuing to build meaningful relationships with all members of our team. We look forward to their captaincy and their contributions to this year's season."

Lanza, a midfielder from Madison, Connecticut, has been a staple in the midfield over her first two campaigns in blue-and-gold. Prior to first kick of 2019, she netted one goal and handed out four assists. Through three games this year, she has found the back of the net once, in the 10-0 offensive onslaught at Mass. Maritime, and set-up one score in the home opener against Lesley.

Rodrigues, who calls North Andover, Massachusetts, home, has defend between the posts since arriving in Beacon Hill a year ago. All six of her victories have come in shutout fashion, including two this season, the 1-0, double-overtime, season-opening triumph at Elms (Sept. 1) and the 10-0 trouncing of the Buccaneers (Sept. 9).

With the new trifecta wearing the 'C', Suffolk returns to the friendly confines of James A. Sartori Stadium's pitch at East Boston Memorial Park this Saturday, Sept. 14 to lift the lid on the GNAC calendar against Boston and league foe Simmons. Game time in Eastie is set for 12 p.m.
