Colby Sawyer Shutouts Women’s Soccer, 2-0

EAST BOSTON – Colby Sawyer blanked Suffolk women's soccer, 2-0, in the team's first-ever meeting Saturday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park's James A. Sartori Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Colby Sawyer put up the only goal over the first set of 45 minutes as Abbie Sansoucy booted the ball from 35 yards out over Allison Rodrigues gloves to give the visitors a 1-0 edge. Morgan Keene set-up Sansoucy's first goal of the season.  

A breakaway by Hannah Fields in the 59th minute extended the Chargers lead to two goals. Leah Dupuis recorded the assist on Fields' fifth goal of the season. 

Despite maintaining possession for the majority of the remainder of the half, Colby Sawyer's defense backed by the steady hands of keeper Oona Bond kept the Rams off the scoreboard to seal Suffolk's setback fate.  

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Rodrigues turned aside seven attempts over the full 90 minutes. 
  • Bond stopped all six shots she faced.  

STATISTCALLY SPEAKING

  • Each team had 14 shots with the Chargers owning the edge in shots on net, 9-6. 
  • Both teams had two corner opportunities.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk and Colby Sawyer met for the first time. 
  • Rodrigues matched a career-high seven saves
  • Rodrigues played her first complete collegiate game.
