Nagri Records 100th Point as Suffolk Shutouts Mass. Maritime

EAST BOSTON – Alexandra Nagri was one of three Rams to produce at least a hat trick with the senior co-captain registering her 100th career point in the process, as Suffolk women's soccer ran past Mass. Maritime, 10-0, Monday night at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk started its offensive output six minutes into the action and piled on the goals from there to take a six-goal cushion into halftime. 

Over the second set of 45 minutes, the Rams continue to rack up the goals with four strikes to extend its margin to 10 goals. Suffolk held the Buccaneers from the scoreboard to secure the 10-0 victory. 

GOALS

  • With 6:14 removed from the clock, Suffolk scoring started as Jessica Harmon and Alexandra Nagri stormed on a two-on-one opportunity. Harmon drew the Buccaneers keeper Sara Coffey out of position at the right-side eight-yard line. The senior found her teammate, Nagri, on the left the the forward easily tucking the ball across the goal line to open the scoring.
  • Just 35 seconds later, Harmon put one away herself. She sniped one from 12-yards out on the left side into the opposite upper corner to make it a 2-0 game.
  • Nagri struck for the second time in the 18th minute and this time from deep. She let a missal fly from nearly 24-yards out and lofted it over Coffey's gloves to stretch the Rams' advantage to three.
  • Nagri continued gathering points as she set-up from her co-captain Jennifer Martin just 46 seconds later. Nagri paced down the right-side line, cross to Martin up the middle, who sent the ball high into the netting to give the blue-and-gold a 4-0 cushion in the 18th minute.
  • Paola Ortez cleared the zone from the midfield and found Martin at the 40. With Coffey out of position to stop the one-on-one breakway, Martin dished to Harmon who lifted the ball over Coffey's head and the rock rolled into the back of the netting in the 22nd minute.
  • Nagri pushed Suffolk's advantage to six in the 28th minute. She deked the goalie, had a one-on-one with a Buccaneers defender, but thanks to a dribble move, she made it past the defense and connect top right shelf to complete her hat trick.
  • Seconds apartment from one another, Harmon connected on a feed from MaryKate Simmons, before Nagri put away an unassisted score, which marked the 100th-point milestone.
  • Harmon and Simmons teamed up against at the 57th-minute mark and Martin was helped by Veronica Bernardo with just over 25 minutes remaining for the final 10-0 margin. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Suffolk used all three of its keepers in the victory. Julia Fieldsend earned the victory with a two-save effort through the first 34:11 of action. Kirsten Weiker played 27:25 minutes of relief, while Jordan Pettograsso turned aside Mass. Maritime attempts through 28:24 minutes of play.
  • Coffey was peppered with 20 attempts and stopped half in the setback. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Suffolk commanded the contest with advantages in shots, 26-9, shots on goal, 20-5, and corners, 4-1.
  • Nagri paced Suffolk with four goals and one assists, while Harmon and Martin each had three markers and one helper.
  • Simmons setup a pair of goals with Bernardo chipping in one assist.
  • Madison Taylor had five shots, three on target to lead Mass. Maritime's offensive charge. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk remains unbeaten all-time versus Mass. Maritime, improving to 4-0.
  • The Rams 10-0 victory over Mass. Maritime marks the most goals scored by the blue-and-gold in the all-time series as well as the largest margin of victory versus the Buccaneers, displacing the 9-0 Suffolk win in 2009.
  • Suffolk shutout Mass. Maritime for the third time in the series history.
  • Suffolk's 10 goals mark the most for the Rams this season and highest offensive output since scoring 12 in a 12-0 shutout win over Anna Maria Oct. 24, 2012.
  • Nagri notched her 100th career point on her fourth goal of the night. She is just the second Ram to produce 100-plus points and first since Hall of Fame Leslie Hayden '12 did so in 2011.
  • Nagri is second all-time on Suffolk's career list with 101 points on 45 goals and 11 helpers.
  • Nagri's nine-point effort marks a career high for the senior, who also matched a career best goals with four.
  • Nagri, Harmon and Martin each registered their second three-goal performance of the year
  • Harmon match her career-highs in points (7) and goals (3).
  • Suffolk produced its third shutout of the season, all belonging to Fieldsend.
