Women’s Soccer Duo Grabs GNAC Corvias Weekly Awards

BOSTON – After one of the most successful weeks in Suffolk women's soccer history, Julia Fieldsend and Alexandra Nagri grabbed GNAC Corvias weekly honors, the league office unveiled Monday afternoon. Fieldsend took home goalie of the week, while Nagri picked up player of the week recognition.

Fieldsend was the anchor behind Suffolk's historic 2-0 win over Lasell, the program's first. The sophomore keeper turned aside nine attempts and kept the Lasers off the scoreboard to record her first collegiate cleansheet. The shutout marked the first time Lasell was kept off the scoreboard by a league foe since Saint Joseph (Conn.) blanked the Lasers Oct. 15, 2012.

In the monstrous win over the Lasers, Nagri got Suffolk's offense going. The senior stormed up the middle on a feed from Bela Binggeli and snuck the rock past Lasell's Sarah LaClair in the bottom left of the net to give Suffolk a 1-0 lead. Nagri's eventual go-to winner propelled the Rams to victory over the Lasers marking not only the blue-and-gold's first victory versus its conference counterpart, but the first time Lasell was taken down by conference competition since the Blue Jays shut them out Oct. 15, 2012.

Using momentum from Wednesday night's historic win, Nagri had a hand nearly all of Suffolk's five goals in a 5-3 win over Norwich. The captain contributed a hat trick and one assist to produce a career-high seven point effort in the victory. Fieldsend, meanwhile, made seven saves between the pipes to improve to 3-2-0 in net in 2017.

The weekly accolades mark a first for both Fieldsend and Nagri as the duo became the first set of Suffolk women's soccer players to be recognized since Jennifer Martin and Kirsten Weiker were named the best player and keeper, respectively, over a seven day stretch by the conference after last year's quarterfinal stunning win over Johnson & Wales.

Suffolk takes midweek action off this week as it sets its sights on Saturday's (Oct. 7) showdown at Saint Joseph (Conn.) Game time in Hartford, Connecticut, is set for 1 p.m.
