O’Brien Nabs GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week

BOSTON – Caleigh O'Brien of the Suffolk women's soccer team picked up GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week honors after leading the Rams to a 3-2 come-from-behind overtime victory at Regis Saturday, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

O'Brien made her first collegiate goal count as the freshman forward from Wilbraham, Massachusetts, connected for a goal with just 41 seconds on the clock in regulation to tie the ballgame at 2-2 at Regis Stadium. Her heroics carried over into the extra session as she potted the game-winner 37 into OT to lift Suffolk to a 3-2 win over the Pride.

The victory marked the first conference win for the blue-and-gold this season and dueled as the first-ever overtime win in the Darren Lloyd era.

O'Brien became the first Ram to net a multi-goal game in 2017 and Alexandra Nagri and Jennifer Martin each recorded a pair apiece in a 6-2 win over Mass. Maritime Oct, 25, 2016.

Suffolk returns to the pitch Wednesday, Sept. 20 when it entertains Simmons at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.
