EAST BOSTON – The Suffolk women's soccer team fell in its home, GNAC opener Saturday afternoon as the Falcons of Albertus Magnus shutout the Rams, 4-0, at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk commanded the opening 25 minutes as the Rams peppered Lexie Fenn with multiple attempts. The keeper kept the blue and gold quiet before the Falcons stormed to the other end of the pitch and broke open the scoreless contest in the 29th minute.

The Rams attempted to level the playing field as time dwindled in the first frame, but Fenn and the Falcons held the hosts. With less than four minutes on the clock in the half, Albertus Magnus put more distance between it and the Rams as it found the back of the netting once again to make it a 2-0 game.

With 15 minutes removed from clock in the second stanza, Albertus Magnus pushed the outing to a three-goal game. The visitors used a corner, their fourth of the afternoon, to put the Rams into a three-goal deficit.  

Nearly 15 minutes later the Falcons struck again to stretch things to a 4-0 in their favor.

Suffolk could not find itself on the scoreboard the rest of the way as the Falcons' defense kept them at bay to secure the conference victory.

GOALS

• Angelica Piccirillo sent a lead assist through the right side setting up a one-on-one opportunity for Sophia Austin. Austin picked up the pieces of Piccirillo's feed at the 20-yard line and shot past Kirsten Weiker on the right to give the Falcons a 1-0 edge.
• Piccirillo raced up the midfield and found Tiana Cass on the right-side line. Cass beat the Rams' defender and tripped up Weiker to push Albertus Magnus' lead to two with 3:27 before halftime.  
• On a corner kick, Kerrigan Loughman and Piccirillo used a fundamental give-and-go set-up to make it a 3-0 game. Loughman took the corner, dished to Piccirillo and received it right back. On the return, Loughman fired into the far upper right corner to stretch the Falcons cushion to three markers in the 61^st minute.
• With 16 minutes remaining in regulation, Alexya Alves led Austin on the left side who crossed to Amanda Montano in front of Suffolk's goal posts. The senior's first goal of the year went to low on Weiker's right and gave the Falcons a 4-0 advantage.

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

• Weiker made five saves in the setback.
• Fenn turned aside all three attempts she faced.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Suffolk outshot Albertus Magnus, 16-14, and took more corners, 7-5.
• The Falcons held the edge in shots on goal, 9-3.

NOTEABLES

• Suffolk moved to 5-8 in home openers.
• When Suffolk's home and GNAC opener are on in the same, the Rams are now 2-3.
