Martin, Nagri Tabbed 2017 Women’s Soccer Captains

BOSTON – Jennifer Martin and Alexandra Nagri will continue to serve as captains of the Suffolk women's soccer team as three-year head coach Darren Lloyd announced their appointed Friday morning.

The senior duo enters its second year as the Rams' ringleaders, after serving their first stint as captains along with Shannon Simmons '17 in 2016.

Martin and Nagri have paced Suffolk's front line throughout their careers and are coming off impressive junior campaigns.

Nagri's 19 goals and 44 points packed the Ram's pack and sat third in each category amongst conference counterparts to put the forward on the league's second team for the first time in her career. Martin, meanwhile, produced 16 goals and 34 points, good for fifth in the league and second on the squad. The midfielder played a crucial role in multiple victories for Suffolk, planting the winning goal in net six times including the stunning upset victory over second-seeded Johnson & Wales in the conference quarterfinals. For her game-winning, free kick over the Wildcats, Martin earned a spot on the all-tournament team to go along with a first-team all-conference honor.

Suffolk, who was projected to finish seventh in the GNAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, lifts the lid on its 11th season Sunday, Sept. 3 when it travels to Rhode Island College for a 12 p.m. first kick.
