Albertus Magnus’ Header in 2nd OT Ends Women’s Soccer Season in GNAC Semis

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The seventh seeded Suffolk women's soccer team hung with No. 3 Albertus Magnus for more over 116 minutes of action, taking the Falcons to two extra sessions, but the Rams could not hold off the hosts forever as Taylor Rotella sunk a header with just under four minutes to play before a shootout to take the GNAC semifinal away from Suffolk, 1-0, Wednesday night at Celentano Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Just four minutes remaining in the second overtime, Rotella headed the game-winner past Suffollk's goalkeeper Kirsten Weiker off a corner from sophomore midfielder Kerrigan Loughman. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  •  Weieker, who finished the second 8-7 overall, made seven saves in all 106 minutes of play. 
  • Lesie Fenn earned the win in net for Albertus Magnus with a four-save effort. 

NOTEABLES

  • For the first time sever Suffolk went into double overtime in the GNAC semis. The second double overtime session marked the second time the Rams needed two extra sessions to decide a winner in the conference tournament, the first came Nov. 2, 2013, with the blue and gold winning a shootout against Saint JOseph's (Maine), 4-3. 
  • Suffolk's 21 games are the most games played by the Rams in a single season in the program's 10-year history.
  • The Rams end the season, 11-10, tying the 2011 squad (11-8-1) for the second-most victories in the program history.
