Martin, Weiker Up for HeroSports DIII HERO of the Week

BOSTON – Not one, but two Rams are nominated for HeroSports.com DIII HERO of the Week as Suffolk women's soccer's Jennifer Martin and Kirsten Weiker. The junior and sophomore are coming off Suffolk's regular-season finale, a 6-2 win at Mass. Maritime, and a thrilling 2-1 upset win over second-seeded Johnson & Wales in the GNAC Tournament. Martin, who netted the game-winner on a free kick in the quarterfinals at JWU, has been recognized for her five-point effort on two goals and one assist in the 6-2 victory over the Buccaneers. The dominant, seven-point week for the forward earned GNAC Corvias Player of the Week honors.

Weiker, meanwhile, played a crucial role in both victories, but earned a place on the ballot thanks to her 10-save effort in the conference quarterfinals against the Wildcats. The sophomore keeper is just one of five goalies that JWU faced in 21 contests this season that held the Wildcats to a single goal. That performance came after an eight-save day at Mass. Maritime.

The Rams, who are the tournament's seventh seed, are less than two hours away from taking the pitch in a semifinal showdown at No. 3 Albertus Magnus. Fans can watch the action live at 5 p.m. on Stretch Internet or follow live stats here
