BOSTON – The Suffolk women's soccer team clinched the seventh seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament, the conference office announced Saturday evening.
Finishing the GNAC regular season with a 5-6 league ledger, the Rams will travel to second-seeded Johnson & Wales (14-2-3, 9-0-2 GNAC). Suffolk and the Wildcats met earlier this season back on Sept. 28 in Providence, Rhode Island, where JWU took down the Rams, 7-1.
Suffolk will be making its sixth trip to the conference tournament in the program's 10-year and history and first since 2014 thanks to a 5-6 league ledger. The Rams will wrap up the regular season in non-conference action at Mass. Maritime Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
Since defeating the Rams on Sept. 28, JWU is on nine-game win streak and has been unbeaten in the past 10. During that stretch, the Wildcats have outscored their opponents, 34-4, with seven shutouts including their last three outings. JWU also preps for tournament action with a season finale non-conference contest at Salem State Tuesday, Oct. 25.
For the seventh straight season Lasell (14-2-1, 10-0-1 GNAC) completed the regular season atop the league standings with an unbeaten 10-0-1 record against conference competition to claim the 2016 GNAC regular season crown and the top seed in the championship tournament.
Suffolk will have another shot at JWU Sunday, Oct. 30 with the winner advancing to the semifinals Wednesday, Nov. 2. The winner of the Rams/Wildcats will face the winner of #6 Emmanuel/#3 Albertus Magnus. The two remaining teams in the eight-time field will via for the conference crown in the championship Saturday, Nov. 5.
