Lesley Takes Down Women’s Soccer, 5-2

EAST BOSTON – Despite jumping out to a 2-1 lead, the Suffolk women's soccer team saw Lesley net four answered goals, to take down the Rams, 5-2, at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park Monday Night.

Lesley (5-5) held the advantage in shots, 17-6, shots on goal, 13-4, and had the momentum with corner kicks, 5-0. Suffolk's goalkeeper Kirsten Weiker notched eight saves in the setback, while Jackie Berard picked up the win with two saves for the Lynx.

Lesley capitalized on the first and only corner of the first frame to take an early 1-0 edge. Kai Morehead's corner kick was sent high into the cluster clumped in the goalie's box. Hayley Wirth jumped over the pack and used her head from five yards out to put the Lynx on the scoreboard just six minutes in.

The teamwork of Suffolk sophomore's Jessica Harmon and Jennifer Martin helped the Rams not only level the game, but go ahead. Martin struck first off a dish from Harmon at the 11th minute mark, before Harmon followed suit at the 30th minute mark with her third tally of 2015.

The Lynx outshot the Rams over the first 45 minutes, 6-4, but all of Suffolk's shots were on the mark.

It was all Lesley in the second stanza as the Lynx came out of the intermission firing on all cylinders. As the clocked ticked down to 39 the gray jerseys peppered Weiker in the onion bag, but the Rams defense held and the score remained in favor of the host.

Suffolk would not hold the edge for long, however, as Lesley put one on its second header of the evening. This time Julie Essick knocked in a pass from Samantha Bessey to even the score at 2-all at the 52nd minute mark. Karlin Rubin set-up the play with a go-ahead pass to Bessy.

Things were deadlocked at 2-2 for 20 minutes before Lesley went off on a scoring frenzy. Jordan Mitchell got things rolling with an unassisted score at the 72nd minute, before Isabella Vidana struck less than two minutes later on an assist by Samatha Rapant.

Now leading holding a two-goal lead, the Lynx ended the game the same way things started, with a tally from off a corner from Wirth, but this time the midfielder used her cleat for the final 5-2 tally

Suffolk has a single day before its date Wednesday night at Emmanuel, while Lesley has a few more days to recoup before visiting Daniel Webster Saturday, Oct. 3
