Eastern Nazarene Stymies Women’s Soccer, 4-0

QUICY, Mass. – The Suffolk women's soccer team had its season-best, two-game win streak halted Tuesday night as Eastern Nazarene took down the Rams, 4-0, at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The victory lifts the Lions to 3-3-1 on the year, while the Rams progress to 2-6-0 overall.

The home team got on the board in the eighth minute to claim a 1-0 edge. Kelly Couite bagged her team-leading sixth goal of the season after a lofted pass by Alexis Schmidt.

Eastern Nazarene doubled its lead to 2-0 in the 33rd minute as Lauren Hevy netted her first tally of the year. Kiara Ketchuck set up Hevy's score with a one-time pass behind the Suffolk backline.

The Lions boasted a 10-6 advantage in first-half shots and a 2-0 gap in corner kicks earned.

The hosts added a goal in the 52nd minute to widen the margin to 3-0. Couite buried her second score of the match, firing a left-footed blast through the goalkeeper's arms and into the back of the cage. Ketchuck registered her second assist of the evening on Couite's team-leading seventh marker.

Eastern Nazarene tacked on its fourth tally of the game just two minutes later. Kathrine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) notched her second goal of the fall as she slotted a low shot into the corner of the net after her initial attempt was blocked.

The Lions manufactured 19 shots in the victory while the Rams registered 11.

Senior netminder Kristen Farley stopped six shots on the evening to earn her third win of the season. Kirsten Weiker made eight saves between the pipes for the visitors.

Looking ahead, Suffolk returns to East Boston Saturday, Sept. 26 where it will entertain Norwich in GNAC action at 12:45 p.m.
