EAST BOSTON – The Suffolk women's soccer team dropped its home opener to William Paterson by a score of 2-0 Saturday afternoon at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

Suffolk's (0-2) Jennifer Martin fired several shots on net from close range in the opening 10 minutes, but William Paterson's (1-0-1) goalkeeper Kat Clint turned away each attempt. A shot by the Pioneers' Adrianna Oliveir was sandwiched around Martin's tries, but first-year Kirsten Weiker made a diving two-handed grab to keep zeros on the scoreboard.

The Pioneers put a tally on the scoreboard first thanks to a high-kick from Julia Bos. The junior buried a 15-yard shot at the 21:28 minute mark as the midfielder looked more like a football kicker sending the ball towards the uprights. The kick had just the right spin on it as it descended towards the goal and dropped right in over Weiker's head for Bos' first goal of the year.

The Pioneers peppered on the shots in the second half and connected in the 83rd minute. Off a Rams' turnover, Rachel Rivell made a go-ahead pass up- the-middle pass to Amanda Carmichael. Carmichael placed the ball just inside the right post, putting the Pioneers ahead, 2-0.

William Paterson held the final count in shots, 19-6, with Weiker making eight saves, while Clint recorded four saves in the shutout. The Pioneers also held a slim advantage in corners, 6-4. Martin had three shots for the Rams, who will travel to Gordon Wednesday, Sept 9 for a 4 p.m. match.
