Women's Soccer Wrap Up Regular Season With 5-1 Win

The Suffolk University Women's Soccer team scored five unanswered goals for a 5-1 victory over Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday evening at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville.

Freshman Jessica Harmon (Huntington Beach, Calif.) scored a pair of goals for Suffolk while fellow classmate Jessica Martin (Higganum, Conn.) added a goal and an assist as Suffolk wraps up the regular season with a 4-4-3 mark in GNAC play and 5-8-3 overall record on the season.

Anna Maria got on the board first in the first half when senior Arianna Masley (Oxford, Mass.) lofted a shot from 25 yards out up and into the goal in the game's nineteenth minute.

Martin would open the second half tallying her third goal of the season just three minutes out of the break when she connected on a shot from within the 10 yard marker.

Not even two minutes later sophomore Shannon Simmons (Arlington, Mass.) would come streaking to put home a cross pass from Martin for what would turn out the be the game winner. The goal was Simmons' first of the season putting Suffolk up 2-1.

Harmon would then strike twice scoring her first in the fifty-seventh minute as she booted a ball from deep in on the right side of the AMCATS' zone. Harmon would later add her team leading 11th goal of the season in the 82nd minute.

Senior Lauren Spencer (Tewksbury, Mass.) capped the evening off as she added Suffolk's fifth goal of the Suffolk half when she was fed in front of the AMCATS' goal for her first strike of the season.

Freshman Kate Kneeland (Windham, Me.) was busy in goal for the AMCATS as she made a total of 14 saves in goal.

Freshman Heidi Dumesich (Sydney, Australia) earned her first career collegiate victory in goal for Suffolk as she made four saves in net.

Suffolk held an overall edge in shots at 30-9 in the contest.

The loss wraps up the 2014 season for Anna Maria who fall to a 6-11-1 overall record on the season. The AMCATS were 1-9-1 in GNAC play.

Suffolk will now await the 2014 GNAC Tournament pairing to be released later this weekend to see who their matchup for the conference quarterfinal round will be beginning on Sunday November 2nd.

Prior to the game Suffolk honored the five senior members of their 2014 team along with their families; Lauren Spencer (Tewksbury, Mass.), Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, Conn.), Katharine Cote (Attleboro, Mass.), Hannah McNulty (Stowe, Vt.) and Lisa Gambale (Swampscott, Mass.).
