Women's Soccer Plays to 2-2 Tie With Blue Jays

The Suffolk University Women's Soccer team and the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays played to a 2-2 tie in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC action on Saturday afternoon at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville.

Suffolk got on the board early when freshman Alexandra Nagri (Salem, N.H.) was able to break free after being led up field by senior Lauren Spencer (Tewksbury, Mass.) for the game's first strike.

The Blue Jays would answer to close out the half when senior Dayna Gambino (Newington, Conn.) was able to knock home her own rebound to even things up at 1-1 in the forty first minute of the contest.

Freshman Jennifer Martin (Higganum, Conn.) would score her first career collegiate goal in the forty eighth minute of the game just three minutes into the second half. Martin would put home a header that was started by freshman Jessica Harmon's (Huntington Beach, Calif.) corner kick.

The Blue Jays would once again answer when senior Katie Mirabella (Seymour, Conn.) put home her second tally of the season when her shot from 15 yards out on the left side of the goal found it's way in for the 2-2 tie.

Both teams would have multiple opportunities to put the game away in the closing minutes and extra frames. Suffolk had perhaps their best chance with three minutes remaining in regulation as Martin found herself alone on a breakaway after working past the Blue Jays' defense but her shot went just wide of the goal.

In the first overtime senior Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, Conn.) would help preserve the tie as she stopped consecutive Blue Jays shots in front of her goal as part of a 15 save effort for Suffolk.

Senior Ashley Hebert (Wolcott, Conn.) was also busy in net for the Blue Jays as she made 11 saves in the game. Hebert would make four saves in the second overtime to help keep things even for Saint Joseph.

The tie leaves both teams at a 1-1-1 mark in GNAC play.

Saint Joseph (4-4-1 overall) will now travel to Norwich University on Wednesday evening for a 7:00pm match with the Cadets.

Suffolk (2-5-1) will host Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday evening at Dilboy Stadium at 8:00pm.
