Women's Soccer Fall Short to Emerson 2-0

The Emerson College Lions defeated the Suffolk University Women's Soccer team by a 2-0 margin on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville.

Junior Mollie Coyne (Hamilton, N.J.) scored midway through the first half as her shot from the left side of the 10 yard line found its way into the back of the Suffolk net for the first goal of the game.

Suffolk had a golden opportunity squandered towards the end of the period as freshman Erika Nelson (Peabody, Mass.) hit the top of the crossbar on a scoring opportunity in front of the Emerson goal.

Junior Alyssa Giannone (Mountainside, N.J.) connected on a penalty kick in the game's fifty second minute to build a two goal edge as her third strike of the season made it a 2-0 game.

Senior Allie Altman (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) stopped all six shots she faced in goal for the Lions on the evening while their offense managed to put out a total of 20 in the game.

Freshman Mariana Prieto (San Pedro Garza, Mexico) pushed aside nine shots in her first start of the season for Suffolk.

The win improves the Lions to a 3-3 overall mark on the year as they will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Wellesley College for a NEWMAC conference matchup beginning at 1:00pm.

Suffolk will look to snap their four game skid when they travel to Norwich University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match this Saturday.
