Women's Soccer Fall to Lesley 3-0

The Lesley University women's soccer team found the back of the net three times in the second half to improve to a perfect 3-0 on the young season with a 3-0 win over Suffolk University on a hot, steamy day at Edward Field this afternoon. With the loss, the Rams fall to an even 1-1 on the season.

The Lynx offense came from the veterans as seniors Cameron Brown (Marshfield, Mass.), Alexis Giusti (Meridian, Calif.), and Hannah Landerholm (Edmonds, Wash.) all put tallies on the board.
Brown got the scoring started as she received a lead pass from Giusti, showed great patience by taking two touches in the box, and tucked a shot into the inside of the far post in the 54th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

The next two goals came just five minutes apart. Giusti scored her second of the year in the 73rd minute of play while Landerholm buried a header off a corner kick from sophomore Julie Essick (Beorne, Texas) at 77:22. The goal was also the second of Landerholm's season.

The Rams best chance in the second half came in the 74th minute when freshman Alexandra Nagri's (Salem, N.H.) shot ricocheted off the nearside post. Suffolk beat Lesley to the loose ball but the shot off the rebound went into the side of the net.

The Lynx peppered the net in the opening minutes of play in the first half, firing five shots in the first eight minutes of play but struggled to put them on frame. The best chance for the hosts came off the foot of senior Giusti when sent a blast from the left side that clanged off the outside of the nearside post to keep the match scoreless.

The Rams answered with a chance of their own in the 17th minute of action when freshman forward Erika Nelson (Peabody, Mass.) settled a bouncing ball at the top of the box and sent a shot that sailed wide to the left of the goal.

Lesley dominated possession of the ball and outshot Suffolk by a distinct 24-4 margin and held a 5-0 advantage on corner kicks.

Lynx keeper Jackie Berard (Coventry, R.I.), who relieved starter Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.) to start the second half, was credited with her third win of the season.
Suffolk goalie Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, Conn.) made seven stops in the loss for the Rams.

The Lynx return to action on Wednesday, September 10th when they kick off a five-match road swing at Wellesley College. The Rams will return to the pitch on Tuesday, September 9th when they travel to Eastern Nazarene College at 4:30p.
