Women's Soccer Wrap Up Regular Season With Victory

The Suffolk University Women's Soccer team concluded the 2013 regular season with a 5-1 victory over the Mount Ida College Mustangs in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. Senior Meghan McHale (Halifax, Mass.) scored two goals and added an assist to help pace the Rams who improve to a 6-11 overall record and 6-5 mark in GNAC play.

Mount Ida opened the scoring just two minutes and forty-three seconds into the game as junior Rachael Reese (Santa Cruz, Calif.) tallied her fourth goal of the year and she played a free kick by sophomore  Kelleigh Lombard (Saugus, Mass.).

Suffolk would then score five times unanswered as senior Taylor Miranda (Smithtown, N.Y.) took a cross pass from McHale for her team leading 12th goal of the season at the 6:35 minute marker.

The Rams would score four times in the second half all coming within a twenty-four minute span. Junior Katharine Cote (Attleboro, Mass.) would take a centering pass from Miranda and put home her fourth goal of the season at the fifty-minute mark.

Sophomore Alicia Villett (Peabody, Mass.) would score one minute later as she moved in alone after forcing a turnover and looped a shot over Mustangs' freshman goalkeeper Bebecca Beauliea's (Weare, N.H.) head for the 3-1 edge.

McHale would tally Suffolk's next two goals capping off her day at the seventy-eight minute mark when she headed in a corner kick that was started by senior Gabrielle Balestrier (Mohnton, Pa.).

Junior Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, Conn.) made six saves in goal for Suffolk.

The Rams held a 27-16 edge in shots in the contest.

Suffolk will now advance into the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on Saturday as they will travel to St. Joseph's College (Me.). Suffolk will enter into Saturday's 2:30pm matchup as the number three seed.
