Women's Soccer Face Setback on Senior Night

The Tufts University Women's Soccer team cruised to a 7-2 victory over the Suffolk University Rams in non-conference action on Monday afternoon at Somerville's Dilboy Stadium.

The Jumbos opened the scoring just thirteen seconds into the contest and did not look back as they opened a 4-0 edge in the first half.

Senior Anya Kaufmann (Evergreen, Colo.) netted a hat trick in the first half after recording an assist on the Jumbos' first goal of the game, while freshman Jess Capone (Schenectady, N.Y.) added a goal and three assists to help Tufts improve to 7-5 on the season.

Junior Victoria Stoj (Vernon, Conn.) opened the scoring with her second goal of the season just thirteen seconds into the game as she dropped a shot in from 15 yards out after a feed from Kaufmann.

It would take Kaufmann just under eight minutes to record her hat trick as she scored the first of her three first half goals at the fourteen minute marker. Kaufmann's three tallies increase her team leading total to eight on the 2013 season.

Freshman Brooke Fortin (Bow, N.H.) would add a pair of second half goals for the Jumbos, while Capone knocked in her four goal of the season on a header that was started on a free kick by freshman Alex Pius (Essex Junction, Vt.).

Suffolk would finally get on the board in the sixty-first minute as senior Taylor Miranda (Smithtown, N.Y.) was led up field by fellow senior Gabrielle Balestrier (Mohnton, Pa.). Miranda's shot from five yards to the left side of the goal went in for her team-leading 10th strike of the season.

Senior Meghan McHale (Halifax, Mass.) also recorded a goal in the seventy-eighth minute of the contest as her shot from the 25-yard line went in for her first goal of the season.

Prior to the game Suffolk honored their three senior members in their last regular season home contest of 2013. The trio has combined for 69 goals and 53 assists in their four seasons together.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday afternoon. Tufts will travel to Hamilton College, while Suffolk travels to Saint Joseph's College (Me.) on Wednesday at 3:30pm.
