Miranda, Women's Soccer Top JWU 2-1

Senior Taylor Miranda (Smithtown, N.Y.) scored twice to help lead the Suffolk University Women's Soccer team to a 2-1 victory over the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday evening.

Miranda tallied a pair of second half scores to bring her team lead up to six goals on the season as the Rams improve to a 4-2 mark in GNAC play this season.

After a slow first half that saw both teams combine for only eleven shots total in the opening 45 minutes of play, Miranda got on the board four minutes into the second period with a right-foot strike from 15 yards away for the game's first goal.

In the game's seventy-third minute Miranda would strike again for what would turn out to be the eventual game winning goal as she booted a shot from her left side after weaving through a couple of Wildcats' defenders for the two goal edge.

Johnson & Wales would not go quietly as they put together several offensive flurries in the final minutes of the game.

With less than four minutes remaining, junior Kayla Sypek (Westhampton, Mass.) got the Wildcats on the board with her seventh goal of the season to cut the Suffolk lead in half.

The Wildcats would put together four shots in the final nine minutes of action, including Sypek's goal as they controlled much of the offensive tempo in the final minutes of action. Freshman Emily McClarnon's (Wakefield, R.I.) bid to tie the game with twelve seconds remaining in regulation came just shy as her shot sailed wide of the net.

Junior Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, Conn.) made five saves in goal for Suffolk, including a pair in the final ten minutes of play.

Sophomore Cassie Collins (Oswego, N.Y.) stopped six of the eight shots she faced in the game.

Both teams were even in shots in the contest with 13 each.

The loss drops Johnson & Wales to a 4-7-2 overall mark on the season and 2-3-1 mark in GNAC play.

Suffolk has now earned all four of their wins this season against GNAC opponents as they host a 4-7 overall mark on the year and have won three of their last five contests.

Both teams will be back in GNAC action on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats will host Lasell College at 3:30pm, while Suffolk hosts Norwich University at 5:00pm at Dilboy Stadium.
