Brouillette, Balestrier Guide Women's Soccer to 1-0 OT Win

Sophomore Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, Conn.) made a career-high 18 saves and junior Gabrielle Baestrier (Mohnton, Pa.) scored three minutes into the first overtime as the Suffolk University Women's Soccer team picked up their second Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win of the season with a 1-0 battle over the Simmons College Sharks on Wednesday evening.

Balestrier scored an unassisted goal, her second of the season and second game-winner in as many games as the Rams have now won consecutive 1-0 GNAC matches.

Balestrier's game-winner is now the sixth of her career.

The story of the evening however was Brouillette who pushed aside 10 shots in the second half after stopping all eight she saw in the opening forty-five minutes of the game.

In a four minute span midway through the second half, Brouillette stopped three consecutive shots by Simmons and later made a pair of saves in the closing seconds as the Sharks swarmed the goal in the closing seconds of regulation.

Balestrier nearly scored a goal in the game's fifty-fourth minute but her shot bounced off the post.

Senior Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) led all players with 13 shots on the evening, including six scoring chances that were shot down by Brouillette.

Freshman Brianna Hayes (Manorville, N.Y.) was the tough luck loser in goal for Simmons as she made five saves on the night.

Simmons held the advantage in shots as they put out 36 shots compared to 11 by the Rams.

Suffolk will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Newton to take on Lasell College in a rematch of last year's GNAC Tournament Finals.
