Wheaton Tops Women's Soccer, 2-0

The Wheaton College Lyons (2-0-1 overall) handed the Suffolk University Rams (2-1 overall) their first loss of the season with a 2-0 shutout on Saturday afternoon at Dilboy Stadium.

Sophomore Joy-Marie Fernandes (Woburn, Mass.) opened the scoring in the game's 25th minute as her corner kick from the left side of the Suffolk goal flew over goalkeeper Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, Conn.).

Junior Cassey Muse (Canadia, N.H.) scored in the game's 56th minute as she converted a feed from senior Emily Vincunas (Granville, Mass.) to put the Lyons up 2-0.

Wheaton controlled much of the pace offensively throughout the course of the game as they held a 13-1 advantage in shots during the first half, and a 24-9 margin during the game.

Brouillette made 13 saves in the game for Suffolk as she picks up her first loss of the season.

Wheaton goalkeeper senior Lindsay Leddy (Warwick, R.I.) needed to make only four saves in the victory for the Lyons.

Wheaton will be back on action on Sunday as they host Williams College at 1:00pm. Suffolk opens their 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule on Wednesday as they travel to Standish, Maine to take on the St. Joseph's College Monks.
