Women's Soccer Picks Up Third GNAC Win in a Row

Somerville, Mass. – The Suffolk University Women's Soccer team (4-1-1 overall, 3-1 GNAC) picked up their third win in a row topping previously undefeated St. Joseph's College of Maine (5-1 overall, 3-1 GNAC) by a 6-2 score on Wednesday evening.

The Rams have now won three straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matches in the past seven days. Freshman Taylor Miranda (Smithtown, N.Y.) netted her first career hat trick in Wednesday's win, as the first year forward has now scored seven goals in the Rams win streak. Junior Leslie Hayden (Ross, Calif.) added a goal and tallied four assists on the evening as well, while ECAC Player of the Week, freshman Gabrielle Balestrier (Mohnton, Penn.) recorded a goal and three assists for Suffolk.

The Rams got on the board early as Miranda struck for her first of three goals in the game's seventh minute. Hayden got the play started pushing the ball up at midfield, before a bounce pass by freshman Monica Wolf (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) over a Monks' defender led Miranda in alone for the first strike of the game.

Sophomore Katherine Chambers (Hampden, Me.) would even up the score eleven minutes later as she scored her second goal of the year spinning past a couple of Rams defenders for the goal.

The Rams would score two more goals to close out the first half and take a 3-1 lead heading into the break. Their second score came off the foot of Balestrier, who was set up on a give and go by Hayden. Miranda netter her second goal of the night in the game's 34th minute as she dove across the Monks goal heading the ball into the net.

Suffolk would build their lead to 4-1 one minute into the second half as Hayden notched her fourth goal of the year with a laser shot to the top left corner of the net from five yards out.

Miranda finished the hat trick later in the in the game's 71st minute with another spectacular header. With the Rams awarded a corner kick, Balestrier inbounded the ball to senior Nancy Roxo (Shelton, Conn.) who put a shot up from 25 yards out. Once again Miranda would come darting through the Monks defense heading the ball into the net giving the Rams a 6-1 edge.

Senior Mikayla Call (Portland, Me.) added a goal later on in the game for the Monks.

St. Joseph's College (Me.) will be back in action on Saturday as they host Emmanuel College at 2:30pm. Suffolk hosts St. Joseph College (Conn.) at 3:00 on Saturday afternoon.
