Hayden Strikes Twice As Rams Tame Lions

Box Score

Somerville, MA - Sophomore Leslie Hayden (Ross, CA) scored two second half goals within 2:21 to lead the Suffolk University Rams (1-0 overall) to a 4-3 come from behind victory over Eastern Nazarene College (0-1 overall). Hayden put the Rams ahead 3-2 at 57:40 taking a pass in front of the net from freshman Kelsey Cavaretta (Marcellus, NY) and putting home her first goal of the season. Hayden and Cavaretta connected again just a couple of minutes later to give the Rams a two-goal edge, for what would turn out to be the eventual game-winner.

Sophomore Kara Webber (Marshfield, MA) scored both of the Lions' two goals in the first half. Webber beat Rams' goalkeeper Emily Joyce (Easton, MA) on a pass from sophomore Lauren Bender (Hatfield, PA) for the game's first goal. Webber added her second tally of the game at 27:29 scoring on a breakaway to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.

Suffolk answered three minutes after as Cavaretta scored her first collegiate goal, and the Rams' first goal of the 2009 season to cut the Lions' lead in half. The Rams came out strong early outshooting the Lions 8-1 in the first 20 minutes of play but could not beat goalkeeper freshman Britney Hislop (Burley WA).

Sophmore Gina Dean (Revere, MA) tied the game at 2-2 scoring her first goal of the season after receiving a cross field pass from Hayden and making a shifty move on a Lions' defender to score from 60 feet out.

Hayden finished the game with two goals and an assist with four shots on goal, while Cavaretta tallied a goal with two assists. Dean had a goal and an assist.  The Rams finished the game with 18 shots total, and 14 shots on goal. Joyce picks up her first win of the season making nine saves in goal. Joyce stopped Webber's bid for a hat trick with 25 seconds remaining, grabbing her shot out of midair for her final save of the game to preserve the Rams win.

Suffolk will be in action again on Wednesday evening as they host Daniel Webster College. Game time is scheduled for 6:00pm at George Dilboy Stadium in Somerville.
