Wilcats top Rams 6-2

Box Score

East Providence, R.I.- Sophomore Samantha Reynolds (Plymouth, Mass.) notched four goals as the Johnson & Wales women's soccer team posted a 6-2 victory against Suffolk in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Pierce Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Reynolds put Johnson & Wales up 1-0 just 1:39 into the contest and added two more goals just four minutes apart, including a goal at the 5:47 mark, to put the Wildcats ahead 3-0.  Sophomore Leslie Hayden (Ross, Calif.) tallied her first of two goals of the game at the 11:09 mark of the first half to cut the lead to 3-1.  Reynolds then responded with her fourth goal of the game at the 22:07 mark to help propel the Wildcats to the 4-1 lead at halftime.

JWU continued to dominate play offensively early in the second half as senior Angela Cazzato (Rensselaer, N.Y.) put the team up 5-1 on an unassisted goal at the 48:42 mark.  Sophomore Katlyn Gerrish (North Stonington, Conn.) capped off the scoring for the day for JWU, notching an unassisted goal at 50:12.  The Rams responded at the 71:54 mark when Hayden's second goal of the game cut the lead to 6-2.  That would be as close as they would get, however as the Wildcats cruised to the 6-2 victory.

Junior Jennifer Hurley (Freeport, N.Y.) and junior Kory Blythe (Fall River, R.I.) combined for the win in goal for JWU while Lauren Vachon (Topson, Maine) recorded five saves in the setback for Suffolk.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the GNAC while Suffolk falls to 2-6, 0-6 in league play.  The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, September 30th when they travel to Amherst for a non-conference contest, starting at 7:00 p.m.
