Women’s Lacrosse Tripped Up at Western New England, 18-8

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Suffolk women's lacrosse suffered its first Conference of New England (CNE) setback of the season as Western New England took down the Rams, 18-8, Tuesday afternoon at Golden Bear Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk built a 3-2 edge in the first 6:42 of play as Julia DickinsonAlly Colburn and Jessie Le found the back of the net in that order. The Golden Bears put away five unanswered goals to end the first frame to send the blue-and-gold into the second stanza down 7-3.  

That gap grew to six in the first 3:32 of the second quarter before the Rams started to comeback. Le put away back-to-back man-up goals before Colburn converted her second strike of the day to make it a 9-6 game with 6:01 to play before halftime. 

WNE managed to hold the blue-and-gold scoreless the rest of the way and tacked on two more goals to send Suffolk to the locker room down five, 11-6. 

Out of halftime, the Golden Bears outscored Suffolk, 5-2 in the third to put the Rams in a 16-8 hole.  

Suffolk's scoring opportunities were limited by WNE in the fourth, who managed to add two more tallies, for the 18-8 final.  

GOALIE LOG

  • Charlotte Guziejka had nine saves in the setback. 
  • Emily Picolla earned the win behind a seven-save effort.
  • Deanna Baez and Brooke Darling both saw time in net for the Golden Bears as well. 

STATSITICALLY SPEAKING

  • Colburn finished with four goals and one handout.
  • Le registered three goals. 
  • Dickinson pitched in one goal. 
  • Zoe PeckhamVictoria Wood and Lauren Woods all dished out one assist. 
  • Guziejka and Wood had three ground balls apiece. 
  • Kate Carlson recorded three draw controls. 
  • Emily Briand, Le, Colburn and Eliza Bryant caused one turnover apiece. 
  • Suffolk went 12-for-22 on clear attempts, while WNE was nearly perfect, 15-for-16.
  • The Golden Bears had the upperhand in draw controls, 18-12. 
  • Suffolk converted two of its five free position shots. 
  • The Rams caused four of the Golden Bears 13 turnovers.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk played in a CNE contest on the road for the first time. 
  • Colburn, Dickinson and Peckham have all produced a point in every game for Suffolk this season.
  • Wood has registered an assist in back-to-back games.
  • Le tied a personal-best in goals (3) and points (3). She had her third hat trick of her collegiate career, second straight. She caused a personal-best three turnovers.
  • Colburn has tallied four or more goals in the last 10 games. She has 10 hat tricks to her credit this year. 
  • Woods pushed her point streak to four games. In that span she has three goals and two handouts.
