Second Half Surge Sends Women’s Lacrosse Past RIC, 20-16

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Down six in the third quarter, Suffolk women's lacrosse surged back behind a 13-3 game-ending run to take down Rhode Island College, 20-16, Monday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
RIC got on the board first 47 seconds into the action. Kaitlyn Boyce responded for the Rams 22 seconds later to tie things up. From there, it was three straight Anchorwomen strikes that gave the host a three-goal upperhand with just over 3:00 left on the clock in the first.  

Julia Dickinson managed to trim the margin to two with 32 seconds left in the opening quarter, but Claire Greene restored the three-goal gap 11 seconds later to send Suffolk into the second down 5-2.  

See-saw action that saw both teams find the back of the net five times in the second stanza to keep the three-goal distance at halftime. Zoe Peckham was responsible for two of the Rams strikes, while Ally ColburnEliza Bryantand Dickinson all added one goal apiece.  

Three unanswered goals by Rhode Island in the first 1:46 of the third quarter lengthened the host lead to six, 13-7. 

The Rams mounted a comeback as they outscored the Anchorwomen, 7-2, to cut the distance down to one at the end of the third, 15-14. That offensive output saw five goals from Colburn, a pair from Dickinson and one from Lauren Woods

Suffolk took control in the first 2:30 of the fourth frame as Colburn converted her eighth goal of the day to even the score at 15-15 and Dickinson's fifth of the outing gave the Rams their first lead of the day. 

The lead was short lived as RIC's Green evened things up at 16-all at the 11:18 mark.  

Colburn pushed the Rams in front 1:23 later and they never looked back as insurance came from Dickinson, Peckham and Charlotte Goodman for the 20-16 final.

  • Charlotte Guziejka made five saves in the win.
  • Giana Franco tallied nine saves in the setback.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Colburn registered eight goals and one assist. 
  • Dickinson finished with five goals and one helper. 
  • Peckham provided three strikes and one handout. 
  • Woods recorded one goal and one assist and caused two turnovers. 
  • Goodman, Boyce and Bryant scored one goal each. 
  • Sofia Barboza-Lind and Jessie Le pitched in one assist apiece. 
  • Boyce scooped up five ground balls, while Kate Carlson had four ground balls to her credit to go along with seven draw controls. 
  • Suffolk went 15-for-23 on clear-attempts. 
  • The Rams caused seven of the Anchorwomen's 29 turnovers.  

NOTEWORHTY

  • The 20 goals scored is the most for the Rams in program-history, surpassing the previous mark of 19, set in the home opener against Purchase, a 19-1 triumph, March 1, 2025. 
  • Colburn (35g, 11a), Dickinson (19g, 15a) and Peckham (14g, 5a) have all recorded at least one point in every game this season. 
  • Colburn produced a career-high in goals (8) and points (9). 
  • Colburn has had a four-plus goals in the last seven games. 
  • Dickinson had a career-best in goals (5) and points (6). She had the fourth hat trick of her collegiate career. 
  • Peckham matched a career-high in goals (3) and points (4). She had the second hat trick of her career. 
  • Barboza-Lind recorded her first collegiate point with one assist. 
  • Boyce grabbed a career-high five ground balls. 
  • Carlson matched a personal-best four ground balls.
