Women’s Hockey Bests Curry in Fall Semester Finale, 5-2

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk women's hockey ended its fall semester on a high note as it completed its Conference of New England (CNE) home-and-home series sweep of Curry with a 5-2 victory Saturday night at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 5 | Curry 2
RECORDS: Suffolk (5-6-0, 4-3-0, CNE) | Curry (4-5-0, 3-5-0, CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk grabbed the lead early as Katie Newkirk chipped the puck in 1:04 into the action. Jenna Caballero and Anya Nichipor had a hand in the game-opening goal.

The Rams stretched the gap later when Leslie Steiner sniped a shot from the blue line with no help.

Curry had a response less than a minute after Steiner scored when Ali Olorenshaw answered with a power play marker to cut the blue-and-gold's lead to one, 2-1, which stood at the first intermission.

Newkirk put away her second strike of the day 9:20 into the middle period to extend the edge to 3-1. Nichipor and Caballero assisted on the junior's goal once again in reverse order.

The case of déjà vu continued as Margot Oxman responded for the Colonels with 37 seconds left in the middle period to once again make it a one-goal game, 3-2.

It was all Suffolk in the third as it connected for a pair of goals in a 3:27 span. Alexia Hill scored first with aid from Sam Molind before Aiden Levee-Oshiro netted an unassisted strike to make it 5-2.
