CANTON, Mass. – Down three goals with half the game in the books, Suffolk women's hockey poured in four unanswered goals to comeback and defeat Curry, 4-3, in Conference of New England (CNE) action Friday night at the Canton Ice House.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 4 | Curry 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (4-6-0, 3-3-0 CNE) | Curry (4-4-0, 3-4-0 CNE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Curry caught Suffolk off guard as the Colonels' Kalie Gruhlke chipped in a puck 56 seconds into the action to force the Rams to play from behind early.
The Colonels lengthened their lead to three as they potted a pair of goals 2:36 apart in the middle period.
Less than four minutes later, Suffolk got on the board when Sam Molind sniped a shot from the point on the power play that whizzed by Sarah Kerr.
Things really got interesting about two minute slater when Leslie Steiner found the back of the net from the blue line to trim the distance down to one, 3-2, with 1:27 remaining before the second intermission. Bella Schmidt had a hand in the goal.
Schmidt scored a goal of her own at the 9:43 mark in the third to even the playing field at 3-all.
That score stood still until the final two minutes of regulation when Alexia Hill put on her hero cape and netted the game-winner with help from Liliana Moose.
Curry pulled Kerr from her post to get an extra skater, but the man-up did not help the Colonels as Suffolk skated the rest of the time off the clock to clinch the comeback thriller.
