Women’s Hockey Blanks Johnson & Wales, 4-0

EAST BOSTON – Four different Rams found the back of the net and Katelyn Michals turned aside 27 shots to pace Suffolk women's hockey to a 4-0 Conference of New England (CNE) cleansheet over Johnson & Wales Friday night at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 4 | Johnson & Wales 0
RECORDS: Suffolk (2-3-0, 2-1-0 CNE) | Johnson & Wales (2-2-0, 2-1-0 CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first frame was evenly played with Suffolk owning an 8-7 edge in shots.

JWU came out of the locker room hot, but it was the Rams that found their way on the board first. Lily Abraham gained possession at the Wildcats blue line found Sam Molind, who quickly fired to send Suffolk to a 1-0 advantage 5:04 into the middle period. That cushion remained as the teams headed into the second intermission.

The Wildcats had a chance to tie things up early into the third period when Allyson Barry took a seat in the box for tripping. With a man-down, Sadie Davignon saw an opportunity and zoomed towards the Rams net. The sophomore's attempt was saved just in time by Suffolk's goalie Michals, which let the blue-and-gold cling to its 1-0 edge.

Momentum shifted back in Suffolk's favor as it poured in three unanswered to expand its advantage to 4-0.

Liliana Moose got the scoring frenzy going with a power play marker at the 7:18 mark. Shayna Deutsch followed when she stole the puck in the neutral zone and turned it into the Rams third marker of the night. Katie Newkirk rounded out Suffolk's scorers with 6:20 remaining in regulation.

Johnson & Wales attempted to break onto the board down the stretch. Michals did her job as she stopped the final six Wildcat attempts to not only preserve the victory, but clinch the shutout.
