Endicott Skates Past Women’s Hockey, 6-2

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott outscored the Rams 3-1 in the first and second periods to hand Suffolk women's hockey a 6-2 Commonwealth Coast Conference loss Friday night at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a case of déjà vu over the first two periods. After Endicott took a 3-1 lead after the first 20 minutes, the Gulls outscored the Rams, 3-1, in the second period as well to take a hefty 6-2 advantage into the second intermission.  

In the first Endicott stretch first 8:16 into the contest with the Rams response coming four minutes later thanks to Jenna Caballero. The sophomore was set up by Maddie Gagliano and Elise Wainwright. The Gulls would go on to pot two more pucks for the 3-1 margin as the teams headed to the locker room for the first time.  

Endicott lengthened its lead to 5-1 at the midway point of the second before Liliana Moose lit the lamp on the power play at the 11:13 mark of the second. Leslie Steiner and Caballero assisted on the extra skater opportunity.  

The Gulls answered 3:21 later though and Suffolk found itself down 6-2 after 40 minutes.  

Zeros were hung on the scoreboard on both sides in the third and things stayed 6-2 in Endicott's favor at the final buzzer.  

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Lily O'Neil suffered the setback despite a 34-save effort in 40 minutes. 
  • Izzy Buckett played the final 20 minutes and had nine saves to her credit. 
  • Casey Mortiz earned the victory with a 28-save performance. 
  • Calia Dahl had a pair of saves in 8:01 of action in between the posts. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Caballero produced one goal and one assist. 
  • Moose supplied one goal. 
  • Gagliano, Steiner and Wainwright dished out one assist apiece. 
  • Endicott outshot Suffolk, 49-32. 
  • The Gulls won the face off battle, 30-26. 
  • Both teams went 50.0 percent on their man-up opportunities – Suffolk (1-2) and Endicott (2-4). 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Caballero matched a season-high two-point performance. 
  • Caballero found the back of the net for the first time this season, eighth time in her collegiate career. 
  • Wainwright and Steiner both notched their second assists of the season. 
  • Moose's second goal of the year is her first-ever power play strike. 
  • Gagliano handed out an assist as a Ram for the first time.

Suffolk looks to bounce back tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 18 when it welcomes Endicott to Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink for a 4:50 p.m. rematch.
