MEXICO CITY, Mexico – Sofia Scilipoti of Suffolk women's hockey and the Rams' head coach Taylor Wasylk helped Team Spain to a Silver Medal Finish at the 2023 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women's World Division III Championships, April 2-7.

Scilipoti, a native of Toronto, Ontario, joined Spain for the championships in all four games, while Wasylk was on the bench as an assistant coach for the duration of the tournament.

Spain's tournament schedule began April 2 with a convincing 6-0 shutout of Mexico. Scilipoti supplied one goal to the shutout. Two days later, Scilipoti helped the red-and-yellow blank Chinese Taipei, 2-0. To round out round robin play, Suffolk's forward produced one goal and one handed in an 8-2 triumph over Iceland, which punched the Spanish National Team's ticket to the championship contest.

In the title tilt, Spain fell to Latvia, 4-1, en route to a silver medal finish.

The 2023 IIHF Women's World Division II Championship marks the third time that Scilipoti has skated with Spain. She made the international debut at the 2022 Olympic Qualifier Tournament in Oct. 2021, before helping Spain to a bronze at the 2022 IIHF Women's World Division II Championship. Wasylk, meanwhile, joined the national squad for the first time.
