BOSTON – Suffolk women's hockey's Madison Duff wrapped up her collegiate career with the highest athletic honor as the senior captain was named an East Second-Team CCM Hockey/AHCA All-American, the American Hockey Coaches association (AHCA) announced Thursday night at the Frozen Four Banquet in Amherst, Massachusetts. Duff is the first Rams defender in program history and first skater from the blue line the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) to be tabbed an All-American.
The two-time All-CCC First-Team selection was recognized as one of the top 24 NCAA Division III women's hockey players in their division after helping Suffolk to the largest stage for the first time in the Rams' record books, the NCAA Tournament.
Suffolk soared to the Big Dance after capturing its first-ever CCC post-season crown, where Duff played a major favor. The Novi, Michigan, native, provided two points in each of the blue-and-gold's conference tournament tilts to finish the league postseason with four points. She started with two helpers in the CCC semifinals, a x-x shutout of the University of New England February 25, and factored into both strikes in the 2-1 championship win over Endicott a week later. She put the Rams on the board four minutes into the contest and set-up the eventual game-winner late in the second period. For her effort in the conference's tournament, she was named CCC Player of the Week.
Throughout her senior season, the three-year captain proved to be a scoring threat as a defenseman with 21 points on six goals and 15 assists. She was also a crucial cog in the Rams' scoring defense, which allowed just 1.54 goals per game, good for the 14th-best in the nation.
Duff is the second Suffolk skater, male or female, to receive the prestigious recognition, joining her co-captain Shana Cote, who made history a year ago as the University's first-ever All-American.
The CCM Hockey/AHCA All-American Hockey Teams are sponsored by CCM Hockey and chosen by members of the AHCA. CCM is the legendary hockey brand dedicated to the endless pursuit of performance by delivering game-changing, head-to-toe innovative hockey equipment to players worldwide.
The 24 honorees this season represent 14 different programs. Duff is the only representative from a CCC institution to pick up the feat this season and second to do so in the conference's early history, behind her teammate Cote, who earned the distinction a year ago.
