
BIDDEFORD, Maine – Suffolk women's hockey netminder Lily O'Neil was recognized by the Commonwealth Coast Conference for her effort between the pipes in a 1-0-1 week for the Rams, the league office announced.
The junior from Abington, Massachusetts, gave up two goals in each conference contest, both of which into overtime, to finish the week with a 1.89 goals against average and a .920 save percentage.
At the University of New England on Friday she made 16 saves to help Suffolk climb out of a two-goal first period hole and force a 2-2 draw. A day later, she had 30 stops in the 3-2 overtime victory over Nichols.
Suffolk has garnered a weekly award from the CCC each of the last three weeks and owns seven total weekly nods this season. O'Neil picked up her second of the year, first since Dec. 12. Shana Cote and Madison Duff were named the league's best player over a seven-day stretch Oct. 31 and Dec. 12, respectively, while Liliana Moose (Jan. 23), Livia Brehm (Dec. 12) and Jenna Caballero (Jan. 30) were all tabbed CCC Rookie of the Week once this season.
O'Neil and Suffolk has a hectic stretch ahead with three games over four days. First the Rams are scheduled to host Salve Regina Friday, Feb. 10 at 6:00 p.m. at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink. The weekend play wraps up at Endicott Saturday, Feb. 11 at 3:00 p.m., before the blue-and-gold concludes its non-conference calendar Monday, Feb. 13 6:00 p.m. versus Amherst.
