Women’s Hockey Charges Past Curry, 6-1

CANTON, Mass. – Suffolk women's hockey poured in six unanswered goals with 10 Rams producing a point to skate past Curry, 6­­-1, Saturday afternoon at the Canton Ice House. The victory secured the Commonwealth Coast Conference home-and-home series sweep for the blue-and-gold.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Liliana Moose scored on the first shift of the game with help from Sam Molind and Jesse Kennedy. The goal that came 44 seconds into the afternoon action foreshadowed a scoring show from Suffolk as Sofia Scilipoti potted a power play goal at the midway point of the opening period with assists from Leslie Steiner and Moose to give the Rams a two-goal cushion at the first intermission. 

Steiner scored her own power play marker at the 17:17 mark of the middle period to extend the edge to 3-0 Suffolk. Moose and Sammy Lassman set-up the special team's goal.  

Jenna Caballero started the scoring 1:36 into the third and Livia Brehm etched her name on the scoresheet with a power play goal at the 14:01 mark. Just 42 seconds later, Moose potted her second strike of the day to make things lopsided, 6-0 Suffolk. 

Curry's Ali Olorenshaw caught Hannah Gordon off guard at the 16:38 to eliminate the shutout.  

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Gordon locked up the win with a six-save effort. 
  • Anna Langton registered a 32-save performance in the setback.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Ten Rams recorded at least one point. 
  • Moose had a stand-out game with four points evenly divided between goals (2) and assists (2). 
  • Lassman logged three points, all on assists. 
  • Brehm, Caballero and Steiner had identical two-point stat lines of one goal and one assist apiece. 
  • Scilipoti provided one goal. 
  • Madison DuffMiranda GaudetSam Molind, and Jesse Kennedy all dished out one assist. 
  • Suffolk commanded the pace of play with, out shooting Curry, 38-7. 
  • The Rams went 3-for-5 on the power play and denied the Colonels on their five extra-skater chances. 
  • The Colonels won the face-off battle, 37-27.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • The Rams improved to 5-1-0 all-time against the Colonels. 
  • Suffolk remains unbeaten, 2-0-0, all-time versus Curry. 
  • The Rams have outscored the Colonels, 34-11, all-time. 
  • Suffolk scored three power play goals, the most in a single game since potting three power play markers in a 4-0 win at Salve Regina Feb. 15, 2022. 
  • Moose netted her first collegiate goal and finished the night with a career-high in all offensive categories: goals (2), assists (2) and points (4). 
  • Steiner had a season-best two-points to match a career-high. 
  • Brehm tied a personal-best in goals (1), assists (1) and points (2). 
  • Caballero set a new career-high in points (2) and as she scored and set-up a strike in the same game for the first time in her collegiate career. 
  • Molind matched a personal-best one helper. 
  • Lassman logged a career-high assists (3) and points (3).  
  • Kennedy extended her point streak to three games. In that stretch she has three assists. 
  • Gaudet (4a), Molind (1g, 1a) and Scilipoti (1g, 3a) have produced points in back-to-back games. 
  • Gordon remains unbeaten in net in her collegiate career and moves to 2-0-0 on the season.

Next weekend, Suffolk will face Western New England in a CCC home-and-home series. The Rams will first make the trip to Springfield, Massachusetts, Friday, Jan. 27 for an 8 p.m. outing, before hosting the Golden Bears in a Military Appreciation contest Saturday, Jan. 28 at 4:50 p.m. at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.
