No. 4 Adrian Blanks Women’s Hockey

ADRIAN, Mich. – Suffolk women's hockey fell in its series opener at Adrian as the No. 4 Bulldogs shutout the Rams, 3-0, Friday night at Arrington Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
With the score deadlocked at zero with just under three minutes left in the first period when Adrian went on the power play. Kathryn Truban saw an opportunity and shot from the point. Reaghan Pietrowski got the rebound and quickly shot, but Lily O'Neil made the initial save, however, Pietrowski's second attempt got by the blue-and-gold netminder to break the Bulldogs onto the board with 59 seconds before the team's headed to the locker room for the first intermission. 

The Bulldogs padded the margin with a pair of goals over a 1:23 span in the middle period. Karem Anderson struck first with help from Pietrowski and Truban with Jessica VonRuden following suit on the man-up opportunity with aid from Maya Roy and Zoe Lohrei.  

Both goalies stopped the dozen shots each faced over the final 20 minutes to keep the 3-0 score in the host favor. 

NETMINDER NOTES

  • O'Neil finished with 29 saves in the setback. 
  • Sophie Goldberg turned aside all 30 shots she faced to secure the shutout.   

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Suffolk outshot Adrian, 46-30, however the Bulldogs put more attempts on target, 32-30.
  • Madison Duff led the blue-and-gold with shots with six to her credit, while Miranda Gaudet fired off five.
  • Two of Adrian's goals game on the power play. 
  • The Bulldogs held the edge in faceoffs, 30-27. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk and Adrian met for the first time. 
  • The Rams played in their 11th contest against a top-15 opponent. 
  • Suffolk dipped to 2-9-0 all-time against top-15 foes. 
  • The Rams were kept off the scoreboard for the first time since a 3-0 setback against Connecticut College Jan. 11, 2022.
