Women’s Hockey Sweeps CCC Weekly Awards

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Suffolk women's hockey swept the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly awards for the first time in program history, the league office announced Monday. Madison Duff was recognized as Player of the Week, Lily O'Neil was tabbed Goaltender of the Week and Livia Brehm earned Rookie of the Week following the Rams final weekend of action in 2022, in which the blue-and-gold went 2-0-0.

Duff, a senior captain from Novi, Michigan, grabbed the weekly accolade after her game-winning effort in a 2-1 decision over Trinity Saturday. The defenseman assisted on the game-tying goal scored by Cassidy Gruning, before netting the game-winner herself with just over five minutes remaining in regulation. Her strike that pushed Suffolk to victory came on the power play.

O'Neil earned both wins in between the pipes for the Rams. The junior goaltender compiled a .957 save percentage and 1.00 GAA in the two games. The Abington, Massachusetts local made 11 saves in the Rams' 4-1 win over Western New England, before she turned aside 33 shots in the 2-1 decision over the Bantams Saturday.

Brehm, a freshman forward from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, contributed to both of Suffolk's wins with one assist in each outing.

Both Duff and Brehm earned their first collegiate weekly awards, while O'Neil was recognized for the second time in her career, first since Jan. 31, 2022 when she was named CCC Goaltender of the Week. The Rams hold four weekly distinctions this season as Shana Cote was tabbed CCC Player of the Week Oct. 31.

Suffolk will be idle from competition until Jan. 6-7 when it makes its first trip to Michigan as a program for a two-game series at Adrian.
