BOSTON – Suffolk women's hockey is set to the lift the lid on its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) era this weekend in a home-and-home series against Salve Regina. The Rams travel to Newport, Rhode Island, Friday, Nov. 4 for a 7 p.m. puck drop, before hosting the Seahawks Saturday, Nov. 5 at 4:50 p.m. at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk women's soccer slipped to UMass Boston in its home opener, 2-1, Saturday at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink. The teams traded goals in the first frame before the Beacons put the Beantown battle away in the third period.

SUFFOLK SCORES

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk (1-1-0) splits its opening weekend with a 4-2 win at Plymouth State before a 1-0 setback to UMass Boston.  

Two different skaters have three goals over the first two games. Shana Cote has a pair of goals and one handout, while Livia Brehm owns one strike and two handouts. Sofia Scilipoti holds two assists to her credit. 

Lily O'Neil is the only netminder to take the ice this season thus far. She holds a 2.04 GAA and .852 save percentage. The blue-and-gold's defense has been killing it on the penalty kill, skating off all four penalties it has been assessed this year.  

SEAHAWKS SAYINGS
Salve Regina will begin its 2022-23 campaign this weekend. 

In his third season, David Lun, welcomes back a deep returning class that includes Maddie Cox (4g, 2a, Tori Amaral (2g, 6a), Dakota McMahon (1g, 1a) and Grace Schwartz (1g, 2a). Seahawks newcomers' goalies Sydney Baxter and Livia Krzywulak, defensemen Lauren Cloherty, Grace Dumond, and Taylor Stirling, and forwards Samantha McKenzie, Morgan Peritz look to make an immediate impact for SRU. 

Ellie Kopecky is the only returning netminder for the Seahawks. The junior is coming off a campaign in which she built a 2.64 GAA and .895 save percentage in her seven appearances, four starts.  

INSIDE THE SERIES

• Suffolk is unbeaten, 3-0-0, all-time versus Salve Regina. 
• Two of the three outings between the Rams and Seahawks have been shutouts. The last cleansheet came via a 3-0 decision Feb. 8, 2022 in Eastie. 
• At home, Suffolk sports a 1-0-0 record versus SRU. 
• On the road, the Rams are 2-0-0 against the Seahawks. 
• Suffolk has outscored SRU 10-1 in the all-time meetings. 
• The Rams have never allowed the Seahawks to score a goal at Porrazzo Rink.

EYES ON THE GAME

CONFERENCE DEBUTS

• Suffolk is 3-0-0 in its first conference contest of the year. 
• The blue-and-gold will play Salve Regina in the CCC opener for the first time. 
• The Rams will play on the road for its first league outing of a season for the second time in program history and second straight season. 
• Suffolk is 2-0-0 when playing its league debut on the road.  
• Suffolk has never needed extra time to decide a winner in its first league game of the season. 
• There has been one shutout in the Rams first conference contest of the campaign, a 3-0 cleansheet over Johnson & Wales Nov. 3, 2018. 

RAMS RECOGNITION
For the second straight season, Shana Cote of the Suffolk women's hockey team earned the first Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week following an opening weekend three-point performance.

RAMS RECORD WATCH
Shana Cote heads into the weekend two points shy of the coveted 100-point mark. The graduate student looks to become the first Rams skater to hit the 100-point mark with all her points coming in a blue-and-gold sweater. 

Cote would become the second-ever Suffolk women's hockey player to achieve the 100-point milestone, following Tess Adams '19, however, Adams combined her 79 points from her three seasons at SUNY Canton with her offensive output as a Ram to achieve the feat. 

WHAT'S NEXT?
Suffolk has a home-and-home series with Nichols next weekend, Nov. 11-12. The Rams will entertain the Bison in a Suicide Awareness Game Friday at 6 p.m., before battling on NC on the road Saturday at 4:40 p.m.
