Third Period Frenzy Pushes Women’s Hockey Past Western New England, 4-0

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Suffolk women's hockey scored four unanswered goals over the final 10 minutes of the third period to take down Western New England, 4-0, Friday night at the Olympia Ice Center in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.  

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
It may have taken a while for Suffolk's scoring to get going, but once it did the Rams did not leave anything up to chance. Emily Bozzi's strike at the 10:05 minute mark sparked a trio of pucks that floated past Golden Bears' goalie Sierra Dennis over the next 2:45. The freshman's game-opening goal came with help from Julia Volpe and Leslie Steiner.  

Just 1:24 later, Maddy Burton doubled the distance as the graduate student was set-up by Jesse Kennedy and Sam MolindPayton Dockus wrapped up the three-minute scoring stretch with her second goal of the season thanks to help from Sydney Tietz and Volpe. 

Leading 3-0, Sofia Scilipoti etched her name on the scoresheet at the 17:42 minute mark with assists from Natasha Savage and Shana Cote for the final 4-0 margin.  

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Lily O'Neil registered 16 saves in the shutout. 
  • Dennis logged 55 stops in the setback. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Eleven different Rams produced a point on the night. 
  • Volpe led the way with a two-point night with a pair of helpers. 
  • The blue-and-gold's goals came off four different sticks: Bozzi, Burton, Dockus and Scilipoti. 
  • Cote, Kennedy, Molind, Savage, Steiner and Tietz each dished out one assist. 
  • Suffolk commanded shots 59-16. 
  • The Rams won the face-off battle, 28-23.

  • Suffolk has secured the double-digit win mark with its 10th win of the year for the third time in program history, first since 2019-20. 
  • The Rams defeated Western New England for the first time in program history. 
  • Suffolk moved to 1-1-0 all-time versus the Golden Bears. 
  • Both games in the Suffolk, WNE series have been played at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
