Women’s Hockey’s Scilipoti Named to Spanish National Team 

BOSTON – Sofia Scilipoti, an incoming member of the Suffolk women's hockey team, has earned her place on the Spanish National Team for the upcoming Olympic Qualifier Tournament, the national organization announced via email yesterday.  

Scilipoti is a first-year with the Rams after playing the last two seasons in Majadahona, Spain, while studying psychology at Suffolk Madrid. The forward earned her spot on the national squad after a standout tryout camp Aug. 31-Sept. 5.  

The Spanish National Team will compete in the Olympic pre-qualification tournament against Italy, Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei Oct. 3-10 in Torre Pellice, Italy. The winner of this four-team field will advance to a second qualifier set for Nov. 11-14 in Germany. The victor of that tournament will clinch its place in the XXIV Olympic Winter Games (2022 Winter Olympics) in Beijing, China.  

The Toronto, Ontario native has proven to gain much success while on the ice in Spain. With the S.A.D. Majadahona she helped the team to back-to-back Liga Iberdrola Championships and aided to the 2021 Copa de La Reina title. 

Scilipoti's national team debut precedes her first-ever practice with the Suffolk squad that is anticipated to start preparing for the 2021-22 campaign on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 11.
