Women’s Hockey Loses to Becker in OT, 3-2

WORCESTER, MASS. – Suffolk women's hockey started with two goals before Becker responded with a pair of its own to force and extra session in which the Hawks lit the lamp 1:25 in to hand the Rams a 3-2 setback Friday night at the Fidelity Ice Center.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Becker 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (1-3-0) | Becker (4-5-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Shana Cote got Suffolk's scoring going 6:50 into the first period as she fluttered a shot past Hawks goalie Amber Lee on the man-up opportunity to give the Rams a one-goal edge they held onto into the first intermission.

The Rams doubled their lead with 6:00 remaining in the middle period on another power play tally, this time from Stephanie Moy. After Maddy Burton entered the Hawks zone, the Suffolk senior rotated the puck to the point to Moy, who fired a wrist shot through a maze of bodies in front and past the blocker of Lee for a two-goal lead.

Becker's comeback got going 3:40 after Moy's goal. Katie Puumala entered the offensive zone with time winding down in the second stanza and was preparing to skate around the net from the right-wing side. Before she fully circled the cage, Puumala reversed a pass in front, finding the stick of Cassidhe Wozniak, who beat Julia McLellan through the five-hole to slice the score to 2-1 after two periods.

Shelby Reaugh tied the game at 2-all five minutes into the third frame on a power play goal. Gabby Petrisin fired a shot from the point that was turned aside by McLellan, but the rebound bounce off the leg of Reaugh to level the playing field at two apiece.

The deadlock score remained the rest of regulation to for the extra time. Wozniak's game-winning goal came just 1:25 into overtime to push the Hawks to victory.

The play started with Julia Ravenelle blocking a shot and gathering the puck near the top of the Hawks defensive zone. Becker ran into a bit of good luck as Wozniak was entering the ice on a line change and Ravenelle sprung Wozniak in on a breakaway. Entering the zone with no defense around, Wozniak was patient with her shot and finished the comeback in a 3-2 win.
