Endicott Sneaks Past Women’s Hockey, 2-1

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk women's hockey got on the scoreboard first, but two unanswered goals from Endicott proved to be enough for the Gulls to down the Rams, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Five minutes into the action Julia Volpe centered a pass to Shana Cote, who quickly sniped a shot past Bailey Thieben to get the scoring going.  

Suffolk held onto the one-goal cushion until Endicott leveled the playing field Jacy Kuhlman put away Kaylee Liberty's feed at the 16:24 minute mark. Tabitha Franceschini had a hand in the game-tying goal. 

The tied game held late into the middle period until Meaghan Francis gave the Gulls the go-ahead marker thanks to help from Courtney Sullivan with less than four minutes to play until the second intermission. 

Down one, the Rams had ground to make up, but never were able to find the back of the netting again even with yanking Lily O'Neil from the pipes for the extra skater for 26 seconds. 

NETMINDER NOTES

  • O'Neil finished the day with 30 stops. 
  • Thieben picked up the decision behind a 25-save effort. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Cote was responsible for Suffolk's goal, while Volpe recorded one point on an assist. 
  • Endicott outshot the Rams, 32-26, while the blue-and-gold one the face-off battle, 32-30.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • O'Neil had a career-high 30 saves.
  • Volpe has notched at least one point in all three of Suffolk's games this season. The junior is currently on a four-game point streak that dates back to March 7, 2020. In that span, she has five points on one goal and four assists.
