McLellan Grabs NEHC Goaltender of the Week

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Julia McLellan of the Suffolk women's hockey team was recognized for her netminding against Trinity as the conference honored the rookie as NEHC Goaltender of the Week, the league announced Monday.

McLellan was acknowledged for her record-setting 52-save performance in a 1-1 stalemate against the Bantams Sunday night, which lifted the lid on the blue-and-gold's second semester schedule. Not only did she upstage her previously held program-record for saves by 13 stops, but became the first Suffolk goalie to surpass the 40-plus save mark in the draw. Her effort included a 12-save third period and five stops in the extra session, which the Rams skated a man-down for 2:05 to secure the tie.
The honor is the second for McLellan in her career as she picked up rookie of the week status Dec. 2, 2019. The Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan product is the first Ram to be named the league's best goalie over a seven day stretch since Kristen Caporusso garnered the honor Jan. 14, 2019. This season McLellan owns 66.6 (2-3) percent of Suffolk's weekly honors with Shana Cote's player of the week nod Nov. 11, 2019completing the trio of awards.

McLellan and the Rams have the week off and are back on the ice next Tuesday, Jan. 14 when they travel to Connecticut College for a 7 p.m. non-conference clash.
