Women’s Hockey Closes First Semester with 2-0 Shutout Over New England College

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk women's hockey put an exclamation point on its first semester schedule as the Rams blanked New England College, 2-0, Saturday night at the Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | New England College 0
RECORDS: Suffolk (5-8-2, 5-3-1 NEHC) | New England College (0-11-1, 0-9-1 NEHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk had a great chance to go up early as New England College was whistled for the first penalty on the night 2:44 into the action and 11 seconds later the Pilgrims were penalized again to make it a 5-on-3 opportunity for the blue-and-gold. With the two extra skaters, the Rams rattled off five shots, four of which reached Cianna Weir, but none managed to make it past the goal line and zeros remained on the board five minutes into the action.

The Rams had another 5-on-3 chance with just over three minutes left in the first frame. The Pilgrims limited the hosts shots with the two extra skaters to just one, which Weir picked up, to keep things scoreless.

Shana Cote put the first point on the board as the sophomore scored top shelf. Maddy Burton helped her line mate beat Weir where Grandma hides the thin mints with 6:01 elapsed in the middle period.

Madison Ricardo added to the margin with less than three minutes on the clock in the second period. The freshman intercepted a pass in the neutral zone right, zoomed into the blue line on the right and beat Weir glove side to extend Suffolk's edge to two at the 17:39 minute mark.

Mometnum continued to swing in Suffolk's favor in the third, but none of the Rams' 31 attempts made it past Weir into the netting and the 2-0 score stood at the end of regulation.

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Kristen Caporusso stopped all nine of the Pilgrims' attempts.
