McLellan Earns NEHC Rookie of the Week

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Suffolk women's hockey's Julia McLellan received NEHC Rookie of the Week honors from the league after a 67-save, .905 save percentage effort in between the pipes despite two losses last week.

The freshman from Grosse Point Wood, Michigan, opened the week with a personal-best 37-save effort at Franklin Pierce Tuesday night and closed the week with a 23-stop outing at Wesleyan Sunday evening. The rookie also came on in relief in the home-and-home opener against the Cardinals Saturday, where she secured seven saves and allowed no goals.

McLellan, who earned her first weekly honor of her career, is second Suffolk student-athlete to receive NEHC honors this season, following Shana Cote's player of the week recognition November 11, 2019. She is the first rookie to be acknowledged by the league since Haley Poloskey did so a year ago, Jan. 21 2019.

Standing at just 5-foot-1, McLellan has had her work cut out for herself as Suffolk's starter in her first-year in a blue-and-gold sweater, facing some of the northeast's toughest competition. Through nine appearances, seven starts, she has assembled a stat line of 199 saves for a .982 save percentage and a 3.21 GAA.

McLellan and the Rams are back in action this weekend when they open a four-game, first-semester closing homestand against No. 3 Norwich Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:45 p.m.
