EAST BOSTON – In its first action of 2019, the Suffolk women's hockey team fell to Franklin Pierce, 2-0, Tuesday night at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Franklin Pierce caught Kristen Caporusso off guard just 1:09 into the action as Marissa Massaro picked up the pieces of Haley Parker's saved shot and put the puck away to give the Ravens a one-goal edge early on.  

FPU bombarded the Rams' zone for the majority of the first frame and limited Suffolk's attempts to just four, which did not come until the final five minutes of the period.  

Suffolk came out of the intermission determined to break open the score and saw a great chance in the opening minute as Tess Adams and Shana Cote fired back-to-back attempts at Emme Ostrander. The freshman netminder cleared the puck both times to keep the Ravens ahead by one.  

From there ping-pong action ensued with each team gaining advantages, but neither striking until there was just under seven minutes to play in the second stanza. Alli Sugar sniped a shot from just inside the right circle and the puck zoomed past Caporusso's left shoulder to stretch FPU's lead to 2-0.  

Caporusso and Ostrander kept each team off the scoreboard in an evenly contested third period for the score to remain 2-0 in the Ravens' favor.  

NETMINDER NOTES

• Caporusso tallied 29 saves in the setback. 
• Ostrander stopped all 21 shots she faced.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Franklin Pierce held the upperhand in shots, 31-21. 
• The Ravens won the battle in the face-off dot, 24-22.  

NOTEWORTHY

• Suffolk and Franklin Pierce met for the first time.
