Women’s Hockey Halts Southern Maine, 3-0

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk women's hockey scored one goal in each period and Kristen Caporusso was perfect in net as the Rams shutout Southern Maine, 3-0, Saturday night at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Rink.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 3 | Southern Maine 0
RECORDS: Suffolk (7-3-1, 4-1-1 NEHC) | Southern Maine (3-4-2, 3-3-1 NEHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Emily Johnston converted a Huskies turnover into the Rams first goal of the day. In the neutral zone, the freshman picked off a pass and skated down the ice for a one-on-one with Whitney Padgett. Johnston's snipe from the left face-off dot was no match for Padgett's glove as it whizzed into the back of the net for the 1-0 Suffolk lead at the 9:51 minute mark.

Stephanie Moy padded the Rams' edge to two late in the second stanza. The freshman capitalized on the powerplay as she put away her first goal of the season with help from Sydney Jordan to stretch the hosts' advantage to 2-0 with 2:40 left in the second period.

Jesse Kennedy completed the scoring for the blue-and-gold at the 8:12 minute mark of the third with assist from Shana Cote.

The three-goal deficit was too much for the Huskies to come back as Caporusso held off the visitors attempts down the stretch to secure the shutout.
