Women’s Hockey Picked Fifth in NEHC Preseason Poll

NEHC RELEASE

BOSTON – Days away from its first-ever contest, the Suffolk women's hockey team has been selected to finish fifth in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC), according to a vote by the league's head coaches released Wednesday afternoon.

The Rams, led by inaugural head coach Taylor Wasylk, landed in the middle of the pack with 45 points. Reigning NCAA Division III Champion Norwich was a unanimous decision to repeat as the conference champs with the Cadets collecting all nine first-place votes for 81 points.

Wasylk recruited 23 players across the United State and Canadian to assemble the first-ever Suffolk women's hockey team. The skaters – 13 forwards,  eight  defenders and three goaltenders – represent each academic class and are ready to take the ice in their first ever-games this weekend when the blue-and-gold takes on Nichols in a home-and-home series. The puck drops on the 2018-19 season in Harrisville, Rhode Island, at Nichols Friday, Oct. 26 at 6:40 p.m. with the Rams playing in front of their home crowd for the first time ever the following day, Saturday, Oct. 27 at 5:20 p.m.

Prior to the puck drop at East Boston's Louise E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink, Suffolk will host a ceremonial puck drop celebrating women's hockey and the five other sports that were added alongside it in the fall of 2016 in a six-sport expansion deal.
