Mahendran Repeats as NWGC Player of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Krisna Mahendran of Suffolk women's golf was named Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) Player of the Week for the second time in as many weeks, the league office announced Monday.  

Mahendran won the New England Classic at the Wenham Country Club (4,546-yard, par 65) by firing a five-over-par 70. She recorded the lowest round by six strokes and bested the 14-player field. The individual medalist honor is the freshman's second of her collegiate career and in as many outings.

The Katy, Texas produced paced Suffolk to the team title as well as the Rams won the event with a 305, nearly 100 strokes ahead of runner-up host Gordon (407). The university of New England rounded out the field with a 416.  

Mahendran collected NWGC Player of the Week for the second time in her collegiate career and is as many weeks. It is the third weekly accolade of the freshman's career as she was tabbed the league's rookie of the week Sept. 12. The three career weekly honors are the second-most by a Ram all-time behind Isabel Smith's four and tied alongside Brooke Bugajewski and Ellie Yarbrough, who have three apiece as well. 

Mahendran and the Rams return to action this weekend with a pair of 18-hole, one-day matches in the Empire State. First, Suffolk will play at the Van Patten Golf Club in Clifton Park, New York at the NWGC Fall Classic, before competing at the NWGC Fall Invitational at the Mohawk River Country Club in Rexford, New York.
